Day 43 Tafraoute
We decided last night that we would try and leave the site at around 10:30am as we have a 4 hour journey to one of our most favourite places. We woke early, breakfasted and then prepared the van for travel followed by a quick servicing of the fresh water, black and grey waste.
Our first part of the journey took us back to Tiznit but not on a road we had travelled in the past. Just outside Tiznit we pulled in to a fuel station and filled the van with diesel. It took most of our available cash 650MAD to add half a tank.
We now started to travel east on a road that I remembered as being a little sub standard…. not today. They have improved the road beyond belief exempt for the very last few kilometres coming into Tafraoute.
Our first job was to find a bank… The one I remembered was still on the corner so we used the ATM. Next we needed some food. Walking back along the road that spans the bridge over the dry river bed we stopped at a butchers. We enquired about mince. The chap then proceeded to bring a thigh of beef out of the fridge and cut a chunk off in front of us followed by passing it through the mincer. I also asked for a couple of steaks….. another lump of meat cut off the hanging thigh. All this meat costing 150Mad (just under €15). We walked on further and bought some potatoes and vegetables from the small mall of stalls in exactly the same place as they were 7 years ago. Together with some bread we walked back to the parked vans.
On our way up to the guardian parking we spotted the \”Bourne\” outside of the swimming pool.. that wasn\’t there before last time. It will make emptying our black waste so much better. We chose a spot close to the entrance to the parking and iy wasn\’t long before we were getting the locals coming around to sell us things. We declined the mechanic but did buy some cakes and ordered a Tagine for tomorrow. We also ordered some bread which they will leave in a carrier bag attached to the van in the morning.
Our plan is it stay for a little longer than we have so far in other places and let our friends explore the myriad of shops selling all sorts. they have some interesting times to come.
