Day 71 Algeciras

Today is the day we are exiting Morocco so we rose and breakfasted early. After paying our camping fees of 100MAD (£8.50 including electricity) we left before 10am and drove out through town to join the toll road. However, not realising for 30 mins that we were heading south instead of north it put us behind but didn\’t make much difference.

After filling with cheap fuel in the last fuel station before the port we soon arrived ready to get booked on to the next ferry. We were told by the AML office that it was 2:30pm and was always on time and so it turned out to be. we cashed in our remaining dirhams in exchange for Euros and then proceeded to go through the Police, Passport and Customs checks which there were numerous and also the X-ray machine followed by the sniffer dog. They really don\’t want any of their people to escape without permission !!

At approximately 1pm we were queued up for the ferry. Loading started at around 2pm. We were put at the top level and it turned out we would be the last vehicle off the ship when we got to Spain. We found a table and seats near the cafeteria and once it opened we decided to have something to eat….chicken & chips. The time on the ferry went by slowly but we soon speed Gibraltar which had a shroud of mist.

We joined the queue after leaving the ship to go through yet more Police, Customs and dog checks. Fortunately there was no X-ray machine. Then on to where it all started near the Travel agents (Carlos) to spend the night in the free parking. We were able to use our UK internet allowance to stream videos etc.

Tina declared she was not hungry and so I chose to go and buy a takeaway at McDonalds. It had been years since we had bought McDonalds and it likely to be many more years before we do it again as the food was bland.

When Tina retired to bed I streamed the Premier League darts from Sky Sports.

We will shop tomorrow and travel about 200 miles north on our journey home to the UK. We have changed our Eurotunnel booking to 21st March …. a week earlier than originally planned.
